What this mom wants for mother’s day

Mother’s Day is coming again and I want to share with all our readers some ideas that would make this a enjoyable celebration.

But, before getting into the matter, I would like you to take some time and consider how important and special our job as a mom is. Even if it is highly frustrating venture at times, we happily give ourselves away and are always there for our children.

Which is why, even when marketing has turned the date into a feast of consumerism, all of us should take mother´s day as an opportunity to reinforce thoughtfulness and teach ourselves and our kids the importance of expressing our feelings and taking the time to show appreciation. Yes, kids know and perceive the impact of their moms’ presence and how much they depend on her every day, but it is important that parents create opportunities for them to tell mom how loved and appreciated she is and what a wonderful job she does.

There is no denying that, as a woman, I could be tempted with a beautiful pair of shoes or that fantastic dress I saw and loved (marketing does work after all), but as I mother I find experiences much more genuine and memorable. So here is my wish-list:

1. Breakfast in bed

A classic but, nevertheless, amazing way to wake up in a day to be all about you. It doesn’t need to be complicated, you could even pick-up something delicious from a restaurant if your skills are somewhat limited but please, make sure that there are no other surprises waiting for me in the kitchen when the pampering is all done.

2. Time for myself

As moms, the majority of our time is spent in the realm of the family´s needs, there is always something else to do, and little or no time is left for our own enjoyment. So, on mother’s day, I want a little time for myself. I want a nice long hot bath and, maybe, a facial mask. I don´t want to spend the whole day away from my family, I know some mothers do, but the truth is that I would be miserable celebrating away from them.

3. Let me know how special I am

Motherhood can be overwhelming, and a little boost of self-confidence can always make me feel instantly recharged. Especially on this day, I would like to be reminded of how beautiful, fun and caring I am to my family.

4. Surprise me

I love to be surprised! A small but thoughtful surprise gift will definitely complete my day. Again, is not about money, it´s about meaning.

That´s all!

I love being a mom, and my life is filled with precious little moments that are on themselves tiny celebrations but a little extra attention is always welcome.
